Equipment inventory
Not everything called equipment should be tracked the same way.
The word equipment often mixes three needs: counting consumables, knowing how many identical tools remain available and tracking unique assets with a serial number or a person assignment. A useful inventory separates those categories before choosing software.

Consumed quantities
Gloves, blades, filters, rolls and packaging naturally fit quantity tracking. Usage reduces stock, receiving increases it and a physical count corrects missed movements. Threshold, target stock and consumption then provide a basis for replenishment.
Invumi is particularly aligned with this model. Movements build history and, when enough data exists, forecasting can estimate when a threshold may be crossed. Cost can also be connected to a monthly or annual material budget.

Shared tools
For several identical tools, quantity can still work: four drills, eight batteries, fifteen bins. Add location and condition only when they support a real daily decision. Periodic counts can reveal loss and movement between areas.
When the main question becomes exactly which person has which tool, simple quantity reaches its limit. A checkout and return workflow with unique identifiers belongs more to asset tracking than consumable inventory.

Unique assets
A computer, expensive machine or calibrated instrument may need serial number, maintenance date, documents, assignment and individual history. Adding those objects into one quantity removes the information that matters most.
Asset-management or visual inventory tools such as Sortly may fit that case better. In regulated environments, requirements can go further with calibration, traceability or validation and should be handled by a specialised system.

Annualize the cost
Durable equipment should not be compared with consumables only by purchase price. Spreading cost over an explicit useful life gives a useful annual approximation for a workshop, salon or studio budget.
